Answer

Money, Cash & Tipping

Handling Egyptian Pounds, ATMs, and the local baksheesh culture.

The Short Answer

Hurghada is a cash-heavy economy. While resorts take cards, you will need Egyptian Pounds (EGP) for local food, taxis, markets, and tipping.

ATMs: Plentiful in the Marina, Senzo Mall, and Sheraton Road. Most have a withdrawal limit of 2,000–4,000 EGP per transaction.

Exchanging Money: Use the automated exchange machines at banks or the airport. Avoid unofficial street exchangers.

Tipping (Baksheesh): 10% is standard in restaurants. For small services (luggage, housekeeping), 10–20 EGP is appreciated.

Daily Budget: $30–$50 per day (excluding hotel) covers good local meals, transport, and smaller daily activities.

Bills: Keep small notes (5, 10, 20 EGP) handy for tips and small purchases, as change can be hard to find.
