Safety & Scams
Hurghada is very safe, but as a major tourism hub, it has its share of "tourist traps." Focus on pricing transparency, boat safety, and choosing reputable operators.
Visa & Entry Requirements
Yes. Most visitors need a standard Egypt Tourist Visa ($25). This is different from the free Sinai stamp used in other Red Sea zones like Sharm el-Sheikh.
Getting to Hurghada
Most travelers fly directly to Hurghada International Airport (HRG). Alternatively, take a comfortable GoBus or BlueBus from Cairo (6-7 hours).
Money, Cash & Tipping
Hurghada is a cash-heavy economy. While resorts take cards, you will need Egyptian Pounds (EGP) for local food, taxis, markets, and tipping.
SIM Cards & Internet
Do not rely on hotel Wi-Fi; it is often slow and congested. Buy a local SIM card (Vodafone, WE, or Orange) for reliable 4G data.
